The band, guitarist Joe Hottinger, bassist Josh Smith, drummer Arejay Hale and singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale churn out uncompromising rock-n-roll anthems on their self-titled Atlantic debut. Drawing from an arsenal of songs that she's penned since she was 13, Lzzy examines love and life on the edge while casting a hypnotic spell on listeners. Drawing from influences as diverse as Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, and Metallica, she has a dark sensuality that's undeniable. She exudes that feeling on stage and in the studio, because she's not afraid to be herself. She laughs, 'As a kid, when a lot of my friends were into Backstreet Boys, I attached myself to Alice Cooper, Cinderella, and Van Halen. I want to give the audience a ride and connect with them.' In the end, that philosophy will ensure Halestorm's longevity. 'This album has been a long time coming,' says Lzzy. 'There's been a lot of dirty work that went into making it. Creatively, we went to rock n roll college through the experience. It was crazy, raw, down and dirty'.

Buckethead - Decoding The Tomb Of Bansheebot

Buckethead is one of the most bizarre and enigmatic figures in American underground and experimental music since Parliament-Funkadelic birthed their bevy of cosmic characters in the mid-'70s. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist best known for his virtuosic command of the electric guitar, Buckethead is one of the instrument's most recognizable contemporary innovators, his rapid-fire riffing, near-robotic fretwork, and idiosyncratic lead lines combining elements of Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrian Belew, Slayer's Kerry King, P-Funk's Eddie Hazel, and avant-improv artist John Zorn's Scud-attack sax abuse. His first group, the San Francisco-based metal-funk combine the Deli Creeps, was a regional success, but disbanded before they could release anything. Buckethead's solo career has been more productive, thanks mostly to the motivation of Zorn and Bill Laswell, the latter of whom Buckethead has also recorded and toured with in Praxis. Laswell has also produced a number of Buckethead's solo albums (including Dreamatorium and Day of the Robot ) and included him on more than a dozen one-off recordings with the likes of Hakim Bey, Bootsy Collins, Anton Fier, Jonas Hellborg, and Bernie Worrell. In addition to releases including 1998's Colma , Buckethead has also contributed soundtrack material to such films as Last Action Hero and Street Fighter, returning in 1999 with Monsters and Robots. - Sean Cooper, All Music Guide

Savatage's Gutter Ballet album 1989

Gutter Ballet marked the transition between Savatage's earlier straight-forward, fantasy-themed metal and the more progressive direction the band took in the 1990s. Co-writing all their new material with producer Paul O' Neill, the songwriting on Gutter Ballet is leaps and bounds ahead of almost anything the group had recorded before. The arrangements are more complex, while O' Neill's production and the addition of Chris Caffery as a second guitarist added new depth to the band's sound. On "Gutter Ballet" and "When the Crowds Are Gone," the addition of piano accentuates the songs' mournful sound. Both these pieces and "Summer's Rain" are light years away from Sirens or Dungeons Are Calling, featuring slower tempos, soaring guitars, and sophisticated, sensitive lyrics delivered touchingly by Jon Oliva. Criss Oliva's guitar playing improved, as well, and his beautiful acoustic instrumental, "Silk and Steel," is a highlight on the album. Despite the change in focus, the band did not give up their edge, but several of the rockers show a newfound maturity in subject matter. "Rage and War," "Mentally Yours," and "Thorzine Shuffle" all tackle serious topics with tight, dynamic playing. While there is some material here that is a throwback to earlier days -- "She's in Love" is a sexually charged rocker while "The Unholy" and "Hounds" feature dark fantasy lyrics -- thanks to interesting tempo changes and more complex production, the tracks sound more epic in scope than most of the group's previous work. allmusic

It’s all too common for European metal to invade American soil but the reverse is a lesser occurrence. But Newton’s law, that for every force or action there is an equal but opposite reaction, gets enforced because Seattle’s NEVERMORE hits back with the strength of several. They are modern, heavy metal heroes, talented and affable. After watching their recent Year of the Voyager DVD I have no problem mentioning them in the same complimentary sentence as Iron Maiden. Their extra weapon is that their heavy metal toys with a bunch of other genres, ensuring that they are always interesting.

Century Media also made this compilation an easy task because they signed NEVERMORE right in the beginning, for their 1995, eponymous debut. And the band have been with them ever since. That translates to all 7 studio releases and the live encapsulation being represented here. There is no forgiveness for excluding 2 of my 5 favourites, ‘Dead Heart in a Dead World’ and ‘The River Dragon Has Come’, but ‘The Heart Collector’, ‘Dreaming Neon Black’ and ‘What Tomorrow Knows’ did make the cut.

Guitars duel, drums pound nails and powerful, varying in delivery, vocals make NEVERMORE special. And in this release you get thrash, old school, death and prog in one sitting. Where else could you? Love it! Source.

The sound production is excellently mixed and powerfully delivers the strange blend of all the music genres that can (and should) be discovered in "Ghost Brothel." This album made me recheck the band’s back catalogue and come to the conclusion that taking the "Man’s Ruin Revisited" Stoner turn was not a bad idea at all. On the contrary, the band managed to establish a strong name in this scene and lift the SENTENCED shadow above them. After all, I would not like to have a SENTENCED-sounding band that would like to re-produce the famous "Amok" atmosphere in every album. No, THE BLACK LEAGUE come with a handful of nice melodies and excellent grooves that do not lose an inch of the overall heaviness. Even the female backing vocals and the piano tunes in "Until We Sail" sound Heavy to me.... At least check them out. Combining the thunderous metal assault of Metallica with the peerless melodies of the Beatles, Beatallica are a band of musical humorists from Milwaukee, WI, who have gained an international audience for their guitar-fueled mash-up of two of the world's most popular groups. The Beatallica story begins in 2001, when singer and guitarist Michael Tierney was putting together the lineup for "Spoof Fest," an annual Milwaukee event in which local rockers play mini-sets satirizing well-known musical acts.

Nightwish - End Of An Era

End of an Era is a DVD and double CD from the Finnish symphonic power metal quintet Nightwish. Nuclear Blast recorded their live performance at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland on October 21, 2005, the final concert of a long worldwide tour for their album Once. During the concert the band was joined on-stage by Lakota musician John Two-Hawks, who performed "Stone People" from his album Honor as an introduction to "Creek Mary's Blood", which featured his voice and cedar flutes. End of an Era is the final Nightwish production to feature Tarja Turunen on vocals. She and the rest of the band parted mere hours after this concert. The name of the album most likely refers to this.

Rob Zombie's Live Album from 2007

At one point in time, I would not pick up a live disc regardless of the artist. Today however, I love any and all live records that most hard rock artists put out. They capture all the little nuances of the band’s live show. It is like having your own personal concert at your disposal.

The new Rob Zombie Live disc hits stores today, and is a must have record for all of you Zombie fans. The CD was recorded in 2006 on the Educated Horses Tour. This is a pretty tight set and captures Rob Zombie and company well. The disc gives you 18 live tracks with over an hour of live music. The CD Booklet also reveals a link with some cool bonus material.

Nachtmystium - Doomsday Derelicts EP (2009)

Although he's employed a number of sidemen over the years, Nachtmystium is essentially the work of Chicago native Azentrius, who began recording demos in 1998 and continues to unleash regular examples of raw, misanthropic, Scandinavian-style black metal (think Darkthrone, early Mayhem, Satyricon, etc.) on releases such as 2002's Reign of the Malicious, 2004's Demise, and 2006's Instinct: Decay.

New Album 'Back in Blood' to be Released

THE 69 EYES return with their ninth studio album, which has been hailed a latter-day ‘Appetite For Destruction’. With blood on their hands and AC/DC on their stereo, the bloodsuckers have combined their past to focus on the future. Turning their back on the comic book glam of ‘Angels’, The Eyes have opened a heavier chapter in their musical career. For the first time this decade, honorary sixth vampire Johnny Lee Michaels has been granted temporary leave from the batcave and Matt Hyde (Slayer/Monster Magnet) has been invited over the threshold to produce the record.

In anticipation of the album's impending release, the band will be making an appearance in New York City next Friday, June 12th at The Arrow in the East Village.
